A SAUCERFUL OF DOOM MODS
Daniel's Doom Library
Now that you've read or glanced past the first page, here's a short list of wads worth checking out + some info on them
enjoy
Back To Saturn X is an excellent megawad that comes in episodes; as of now Episode 1 and 2 are out,
with Episode 3 still in development; It is highly polished, has good music and is compatible on DOS,
which is pretty neat! It's also on the list of official addons for the Bethesda release of Doom 1 and 2
So if you own those versions, I recommend installing the addon, and give it a shot.
Fun fact: the names of the episodes, maps and the wad itself come from the albums and songs
by rock band Guided By Voices.
Overall, I recommend this wad and give it two enthusiastic thumbs up
The Sky May Be is a rather.. interesting wad for doom. It's not NSFW or anything, it's just really hard to understand.
The creators, Doug The Eagle and Kansam made The Sky May Be run on what is known as the Blessed Engine, which allows for the changes to the enemies and weapons to take place.
..oh yeah - the weapons and enemies!
The imp's fireball is now a BFG projectile, Barons can kill you in godmode, the plasma rifle is a weapon with a projectile that I'm not even gonna bother explaining - Cacodemons also fire BFG projectiles,
and the Zombieman, when killed, is reborn as a pinky demon that turns into a shotgun guy when firing, and also walks around as such, but turns back into a pinky whenever he's damaged, and ultimately turns back into a pinky upon dying. damn
play it
The Adventures Of Square is a very charming stand-alone game that utilizes the ZDoom engine as a base. it's fast paced, fun and the levels are all indeed very cool
The art style is also something worth noting, it's cartoony and reminiscent of older games released back in the 90s - in the game, you play as square, who must rescue Dr. Octagon from the group known as the Circle of Evil, who lurk around Shape Land hoping to take over it and get rid of its inhabitants in any way possible.
sounds pretty fun, eh?
The game so far has 2 episodes, Cornered by Circles and Galactic Lunacy, which is accompanied by a pretty good soundtrack and visuals.
It also has support for multiplayer, and has a set of maps specifically for the multiplayer versus mode
In short, I suggest you give it a try and see if you enjoy it
The Aliens TC is actually the first Total Conversion ever created for doom, and it's a pretty good one at that - also, according to the Doom wiki, it managed to be so popular that it was talked about in doom forums more than Doom 2, inspired Trespasser - yeah, THAT one - and also reportedly made Dreamworks, among other groups, offer the creator a job; which he turned down to focus on university.
The conversion, as is expected, changed all of the enemies, weapons and most of the textures, to something more Aliens-like - the enemies are xenomorphs, facehuggers, and some of the textures were changed: the doors have the Weyland-Yutani corp logo on them and the hell textures were recolored to be green, resembling slime
The aliens also have different behavior from normal doom enemies, popping out of walls and dropping through ceilings to ambush the player; alien eggs have been added and can hatch to summon a facehugger
voice clips from the movie are heard at times, typically when entering new rooms or when you're nearing monsters - and subsequent releases added a radar which would beep whenever an alien is in range
Overall, i strongly recommend you play this mod, it's also compatible with DOSbox so that's epic
So, yeah, that's all for the list as of now - I will probably add more in the future, but for now I recommend the aforementioned wads, so give em a shot
or not
